Two women and a man were arrested yesterday morning following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of North Monroe St. in Brookfield.
The Linn County warrant specifically authorized local law enforcers to check the living conditions for what was at first an undetermined number of cats and dogs.
Cooperating in the execution of the warrant and removal of the animals inside were personnel with the Brookfield Police Department, the Missouri Dept. of Conservation, Brookfield Animal Control, the Brookfield Fire Dept., and the Missouri Dept. of Agriculture/Animal Health.
As the living conditions were deemed unfit for habitation by the 48 cats, five dogs, a turtle, and a rabbit living there, all of those pets were taken into custody and transported to the Linn County Humane Society Shelter.
Arrested for animal abuse were the following three residents: Delyn E. Tapscott, 38 of Brookfield; Marcus K. Tapscott, 23 of Brookfield; and Anna Marie K. Robinson.
Attempts were also made to notify appropriate county and state officials as there are concerns about the conditions for human habitation.
The Tapscotts and Robinson were issued citations for animal abuse and released.
Anyone missing a cat is advised to contact the Humane Society Shelter at 258-3322. Please bring a photo with you of the cat.
