Congratulations to the Miami Heat who captured the NBA champipnchip on Thursday evening by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 4 games to 1.  Oklahmoa City certainly has nothing to be ashamed of they simply were overmatched for the most part.  The Thunder will be back though and I fully expect them to win a championchip in the next couple of years.  Yes, LeBron finally won a championchip.  Now shut up about it!  The other eleven guys on the team won one too.  For those who think otherwise, LeBron did not win it all by himself and the other members of the Heat are just as deserving as he is.  The last time I checked basketball was a team sport and although LeBron seems to forget that sometimes he did have help along the way.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to struggle as they lost two out of three games to the Detroit Tigers this week.  They wrap up inter league play with a three game series this weekend in Kansas City where the Cardinals have never played well in the best of years.  I do hope the games can be a little shorter this weekend!

Congratulations to the Sruman State Bulldogs football team who will be making their first ever appearance on national TV as their September 20 game against Central Missouri State in Warrensburg has been picked up by CBS Sports Network.  The only thing that could be better than that would be if it were a home game but it’s still quite an honor for Truman  State and the MIAA.  CBS Sports Network is available locally bia Dish Network and DirecTV.  Most cable systems have the channel but Cable One is not one of them.  If you are a cable customer and want to see the game then now would be a good time to contact Cable One and ask that they add the channel.  It is my understanding that the channel was set to be added at one point but for whatever reason that never happened.  Don’t let them tell you they don’t have room for it because they do.  The MIAA has been featured on the channel before as they have a weekly Thursday night Division II game during the football season.  Last year’s game was Washburn at Missouri Western.  The games are very well done with top notch graphics and are not treated as secondary games so this is an excellent opportunity for Truman State and their athletic program in particular to be showcased.  The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. on Thursday night September 20.

Man, Spainhower Field is going to look great when all the work they are doing out there is over.  Not only are they getting a new field but much needed new bleachers as well.

I continue to be amazed by how enjoyable it is to go out to North Park and catch a couple of KBSA games.  If you have never taken the time to do that I would highly recommend it.  We sometimes get so caught up in all the business aspects of sports that we forget that at the heart of sports is a simple game played by kids for generations in back yards, sandlots, and local ball fields all across this wonderful country.  It’s not about the money or getting on the sports highlights, it’s about the love of the game and the joy of being able to play for the thrill of playing the game.  An evening at North Park brings that all back into sharp focus and I can assure you that you will leave there feeling better than you did when you arrived.

Don’t forget to check out Rachel’s blog elsewhere on this site and thank you so much for your continued support of this blog.

Have a great weekend!
