  • The 3-0 Brookfield Bulldogs are coming back home to historic Burlington Field after a 20-0 win in the Bell Game on the road. This week, the Dogs host Monroe City in a Clarence Cannon Conference match-up.
“We're doing our best to avoid a post Bell Game let down,” said Head Coach Nile Thudium. “Emotions run so high during Bell Game that it's hard to regain that enthusiasm the following week.  I think winning that game gives us a great deal of confidence, but we certainly struggled enough offensively to know that we need to buckle down and fix some things.”
The Panthers are 0-3 this season, with all losses coming in the CCC. “They have a nice group of kids who have good ability,” said Coach Thudium.  “They are talented enough to give us problems and they will enter this week's game with their backs against the wall.  I suspect they will see this as a must win game.”
Monroe City operates offensively out of the Wing-T. Defensively, things will mix up often, in an attempt to confuse the young Brookfield offense. “They will use a mixture of 3, 4 and 5 fronts,” said Coach Thudium.  “We expect them to be very aggressive vs. our spread offense.  They will dare us to throw the football.  We must protect our quarterback better than we did in the Bell Game.”
Coach Thudium continued: “Our offensive Line needs to have a great week.  We struggled with our pass blocking last week, so it's important that we make gains in that area.”
The team is a little banged up, as they have been all season, but Coach Thudium hopes to have all hands on deck this Friday. “ It was great to see our players overcome some adversity this past week,” said Coach Thudium. “We are certainly a work in progress right now, but we're still finding ways to win.  We would love to see a huge crowd welcome Monroe City to the friendly confines of Burlington Field.”
