  • The Marceline Tigers traveled to Unionville for a non-Conference match-up against the Putnam County Midgets. Marceline came in off of a pair of tough losses, sporting a 1-2 record, to take on the winless Midgets.
Levi Kelly kicked off to Putnam, and the Midgets would earn one first down on the opening drive, on a 15-yard pass. But the Black Rage defense would stop them from here, with a tackle for a loss by Kelly. Putnam would turn the ball over on downs at the Marceline 42 yard line.
A short run by Blake Belzer led to a pass from Dakota Lewis to Brett McGlothlin for 13-yards to take the ball to the Midgets 42. A six-yard pass from Lewis to Chase Hilsabeck, as well as a 10-yard run by Belzer would gain another Tigers first down. A short run by Belzer set up a 16-yard run by Kyle Bell to take the ball to the Putnam eight. Belzer ended the drive from there with a rushing touchdown. Isaac Smith added the point-after.

The Tigers next drive would stretch into the second quarter. Runs be Belzer and Lewis would gain a first down at the Putnam 33. A trio of runs by Belzer and Bell would get the Tigers into the red zone for another Black Rage first down. A run by Bell got the ball to the 11, but a penalty would back Marceline up. Still, runs by Belzer and Lewis would get the pigskin to the one, where Bell would punch in the score. Bell would leave the game with an apparent knee injury, and would not return in this game. Linebaugh found Lewis in the end zone for the successful conversion pass.

Putnam would drive a bit, thanks in-part to a pair of penalties against Marceline, on their next drive. But stops for a loss by Duane Avila and Austin Moudy would help lead to a Midgets punt. The punt was downed at the Marceline 25.
Runs by Lewis and Belzer, including a 20-yard gainer, would earn a Black Rage first down. A fourth down pass from Linebaugh to Lewis was called back on a penalty, but a second pass from Linebaugh to Hilsabeck would gain 33-yards into the Putnam red zone. Belzer would run it in on the next play from 17 yards out. Smith added the point-after.

After the kickoff, Putnam earned first downs on a 20-yard pass and an 11-yard run. But a sack for an eight yard loss by Moudy would derail the momentum, and force an eventual punt. The Tigers took over at their own 23 yard line.
A 14-yard gain by Belzer had the Tigers offense moving, but a deflected pass was intercepted to turn the ball over. Linebaugh found a measure of redemption, picking back off a Midgets pass, and returning it to the Putnam 38.
On the very next play, Lewis took the pitch, and found Hilsabeck for the 38-yard score on the halfback pass. Smith added the point-after.

"We played hard, and took care of business," said Head Coach Paul Thomas. "That's a scary game with a team that's 0-3, you never know what's going to happen. I thought our kids came out focused and ready to play."
