Week Five – Centralia Panthers

This week, the 4-0 Brookfield Bulldogs take to the roads of North Missouri, with a trip to Centralia, and a battle with the unbeaten and State-ranked Panthers. This Clarence Cannon Conference battle has been quite the war over the past few years, and was a featured match-up of the old “District of Doom.”

From the LCL's Football Preview edition: Centralia is in their 19th season under Head Coach Erle Bennett, who has a career record with Centralia of 157-44. The Panthers were 10-1 last season, and went 7-0 in the CCC.The Panthers return 30 lettermen this season, and have been CCC Champions since 2005. “Our success will depend on our ability to improve each week in the summer, as well as how we progress as the season goes on,” said Coach Bennett. “We have to be able to play tough defense and keep opposing teams off-balanced with out offense.”

Offensively, Centralia will run out of the Pistol. “We will have to build our team around our experienced offensive line,” said Coach Bennett. “We will have decent size and strength. Our quickness and speed at our skill positions will be a matchup problem for our opponents.”

Coach Bennett continued: “We will have good depth in general, and be able to play a number of kids. Our offense will be balanced between running and passing.”

The Panthers will use a 3-3 Stack on defense this season. “Our defensive line will be one of our strong points,” said Coach Bennett. “We should be solid in our secondary with our height and speed. Our inside and outside linebackers are really quick and can tackle.”
