The Class One, District Six Golf Tournament was held at Kirksville yesterday, and local golf fans can rest easy, knowing that the tradition of fine golfers from Linn County continues onward.
The Brookfield Lady Dogs took first place as a team, shooting a 432, 17 strokes ahead of second place Trenton. This earns the five Lady Dogs golfers a shot at Sectionals as a team.
“It was a great job today by the girls,” said Brookfield Head Coach Jason White. “The scores were a little higher today for the field, but I thought we did a good job of playing close to normal. I am very proud of the dedication they put in this week.”
The Marceline Lady Tigers shot a 519, taking sixth place as a team, finishing seven strokes behind Chillicothe, and 25 stokes ahead of Putnam County.
Miranda White of Brookfield took first place with a 90, six strokes ahead of her closest competitor. Nicole Liebhart of Brookfield took sixth, shooting a 103. Kyla Swanson of Marceline took ninth with a 116. Amanda Hueffmeier of Brookfield took 11th, shooting a 118. Cassie McKenzie of Brookfield shot a 119, taking 12th. Nicki Boone of Marceline took 17th place with a 125. Regardless of the team scores, these local golfers would have advanced to Sectionals as individuals.
In other local action: Holly Burk of Marceline shot a 137, Morgan Snyder of Marceline shot a 141, Haylee Howe of Brookfield shot a 155, and Terri Lawler-Ewing shot a 158.
