The postseason has begun for local softball teams. Three local squads picked up wins in the opening round of District Softball in their respective District’s. Brookfield, Marceline, and Meadville all advanced to the Semifinal Round.
Brookfield 5 Milan 0
The Brookfield Lady Dogs, seeded second, took on Milan for the second time this week. The Lady Dogs run total wasn’t what it was Monday, but still was enough to keep the season alive. Sammi Overton pitched a three-hit shutout en route to the Lady Dogs win.
Alesa Frey had a sacrifice and an RBI. Bailey Parks went 3-4 and reached on an error. Alexis Lindsay went 2-4 with a Fielder’s Choice. Natalie Wheeler walked twice, was hit by a pitch, and had an RBI. Sammi Overton went 1-2 with a walk and two RBI’s. Ashley Kearns had a sacrifice and was hit by a pitch. Jaclyn Weydert reached on an error twice and had a sacrifice. Paige Clawson went 1-2 with a sacrifice.
Marceline 6 Putnam County 3
The Lady Tigers took on Putnam County, a team that had defeated them twice in the regular season in close games. Marceline came back from an early deficit, though, and brought home a big win from the lower seed.
Morgan McCormick pitched all seven innings, striking out four, walking five, and allowing one earned run.
Morgan went 1-3 with a walk. Abby Gauthier went 3-4, reached on an error, and had an RBI. Sydnee Brooks went 2-4. Madison McCormick went 3-4 with three RBI’s. Kate Peiffer went 1-4 with an RBI. Katie Cupp went 1-3.
Meadville 7 Hale 5
The Meadville Lady Eagles continued their strong showings over CLAA teams with a District Softball win over Hale.
Emilie Cowan went 2-3. Hannah Boyd went 2-4 with three RBI’s. Raysha Tate went 3-4 with an RBI. Haley Fitzpatrick went 1-4 with an RBI. Halee Neal went 3-4. Shelby Shiflett reached on a Fielder’s Choice and had an RBI. Tori Baker went 1-4. Sara VanDyke went 1-4.
