Brookfield and Meadville Win Softball Crowns

A pair of local teams brought home District Softball Championships this past weekend, extending their seasons into the Sectional Round.  Both Meadville and Brookfield won their respective District’s.
Meadville Lady Eagles
In the second round of the Class One, District 12 tournament, Meadville took on Tina-Avalon, and won 7-6 to advance to the finals.
Emilie Cowan went 2-4 and reached on an error.  Raysha Tate walked.  Erin Shiflett went 2-4 with an RBI.  Haley Fitzpatrick walked.  Halee Neal went 1-3 and reached on an error.  Sara VanDyke went 1-3 and reached on an error.  Kasie Boyd went 2-3 with an RBI.  Hanah Boyd went 1-3 with an RBI.
In the District Championship game, the Lady Eagles took on Brunswick.  It took nine innings, but Meadville won the game 10-8.  Cowan went 1-5.  Neal went 2-5 with three RBI’s.  Tate went 3-5 with two RBI’s.  Erin Shiflett went 2-5.  VanDyke went 2-5 with two RBI’s.  Fizpatrick went 3-5.  Kasie Boyd went 2-5.  Tori Baker walked.  Shelby Shiflett reached on an error.
Meadville advances to the Sectional Round where they will take on Cairo.  The game takes place Wednesday at Donner Park in Chillicothe at 5:30 p.m.
Brookfield Lady Dogs
The Brookfield Lady Dogs had weather alter the path to their Class 2, District 6 Championship; as their second round game was moved to Friday night.
In that delayed game, the Lady Dogs downed Gallatin 2-0 to advance to the finals.  Alesa Frey went 2-3.  Bailey Parks had a walk.  Natalie Wheeler went 2-3 with two RBI’s.  Megan Kearns with a Fielder’s Choice.  Paige Clawson went 1-2.
Sammi Overton pitched a three hit shutout, striking out three and walking none.
In the Championship game, Brookfield shut out the top-seeded Penney Hornets 10-0.  Frey walked twice.  Parks went 2-3 with two RBI’s.  Alexis Lindsay went 1-2 with two RBI’s.  Wheeler went 1-3.  Megan Kearns went 1-2.  Overton had a walk.  Jaclyn weydert went 2-3 with an RBI.  Clawson went 1-3 with two RBIs.
Brookfield advances to Sectionals to take on Bishop Leblond of St. Joseph on the road Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
