  • R-3 Board Approved Bus Sale, Trips

  • The Brookfield R-3 Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday night with all Board members present. At the meeting, the Board approved the sale of two of the District’s buses, and approved a pair of student trips.

  • The Brookfield R-3 Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday night with all Board members present.  At the meeting, the Board approved the sale of two of the District’s buses, and approved a pair of student trips.
    The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. sharp by President Jeff Vogel, and after the Pledge of Allegiance, and no public comments, the Board unanimously passed the agenda and consent agenda.  The motion and second were made by Jim McIntyre and Toni Fay, and McIntyre and Marc Amer, respectively.
    Superintendent Dr. Paul Barger noted under Recognition that there will be two separate recognitions made at each meeting.  One Recognition will be made for academic reasons, and the other will be made for athletics/activities.  No Recognitions were available for in-person recognition at this meeting, but the success of the Lady Dogs softball team was noted.
    Program Evaluations
    Under Transportation, Dr. Barger reported that things were going well, and that the District is excited for the new buses.  He also reported that there was a bus accident on a field trip to Jefferson City.  No students were involved, but a new bus was driven to the scene to transport students in.  The damaged bus is still under repair.
    Under Food Service, Dr. Barger spoke about the changes that the Federal Government has placed on the department.  Portion size in the entree is the same, but students have choices now concerning their fruit and vegetable portions.  These new guidelines affect everything from the type of milk served, to the amount and type of condiment allowed.
    Under Facilities/Grounds/Maintenance, Dr. Barger presented an update on the projects from this past summer, as well as a list of projects for the coming summer, and into the future.
    Financial Report
    Kevin Hudson, CPA, was present to explain the District’s audit.  This matter was a review item this month, and the audit itself will be approved next month, after the Director’s have a month to process it.
    The audit’s numbers were in line with the figures presented by Dr. Barger to the Board of Education, and the auditor noted no issues with the school’s bookkeeping.
    The amended budget was presented to the Board, it will be approved next month, and presented actual figures.  This is opposed to the estimated numbers used to prepare the budget in time for state compliance.
