Major A.F. “Slim” Closson, 93, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, October 27, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Bluff.
Private graveside services and entombment will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Jefferson City, under the direction of Freeman Mortuary, Jefferson City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the MASTERS, 5287 Highway 67 North, Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901.
Slim was born February 9, 1919, in Keytesville, son of James R. and Mary L. (Knouse) Closson. He was married on May 1, 1948, in Independence, to Doris M. Birgee. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2010.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and Europe for which he was awarded two bronze stars. He was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 34 years retiring as a Major in 1979.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Kay Closson, Jefferson City, Shirley Mueller, Eureka, and Betty Morrison and husband, Travis, Jefferson City; one son, James E. Closson and wife, Ginny, Marshall; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert John Closson; six brothers and eight sisters.
