Hemingway is famous for his broad, declarative writing style. To me he always seemed to get right to the point. Though I read A Farewell to Arms in high school I still, like many people, remember the impact of the dramatic ending. On a personal note I also remember that the best Kummel (an alcoholic beverage) comes in a bottle shaped like a bear. One of the most well known renowned novels of the 20th century and that’s what I took away from it as a teenager. HA! But in all seriousness I, like many people, can’t think of a more emotionally impacting ending than the original.
"I like the live-baby ending, the ending in which you consider that the baby lives," says Hemingway’s grandson. (Quote from NPR interview)
