Betty Jean Furlong, 85, Chillicothe, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Livingston Manor Care Center, Chillicothe.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Family visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial was in Haseville Cemetery, Haseville.

Betty was born July 6, 1927, in Haseville, daughter of George E. and Nora Mae (Losh) Hess. She was united in marriage to Vernon Delbert Riddle on June 15, 1942, in Meadville. He preceded her in death April 30, 1966. She married Thomas E. Furlong on March 1, 1973, in Trenton. He also preceded her in death July 3, 1999.
She attended Meadville High School. While raising her family she attended North Central Missouri College Nursing Program where she graduated in 1967. In 1942, she and Vernon moved to farm in Haseville, where they stayed until 1960, when they moved to Trenton. They lived in various locations in the midwest. After her second marriage they lived in various locations in Colorado, Texas, and Minnesota, and retired in Colorado Springs, Colo. In 2000, she moved to Chillicothe.
Survivors include four sons, Daniel and wife, Diane Riddle, Hastings, Mich., David and wife, Elaine Riddle, Humphreys, George and wife, Wilhelmina Riddle, Douglas, Mass., and Richard and wife, Mimi Riddle, Longmont, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one step-daughter, Terry Cordur, Visalia, Calif.; two step-grandchildren; and one brother, Geoge and wife, Shirley Hess, Chillicothe.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Earl, Merle, Forrest “Budd” and Samuel Hess; and four sisters, Okie Todd, Imogene Newman, Mary Francis Saale and Raymah Alkire.
