The Marceline Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled down Highway 36 to Shelbina for a pair of varsity basketball games against South Shelby in non-conference action on Tuesday night. The black rage basketball teams split wins on this occasion, their first road games of the season.
In the opener, the Lady Tigers toppled the Lady Birds 60-40. "The girls jumped out to a big first quarter lead and maintained their lead throughout the game," said Head Coach Kent O'Laughlin. "Our defense forced South Shelby into a lot of turnovers, which aided in picking up several easy baskets. We had fairly good balance in our scoring."
Abby Gauthier had eight points, one board, five assists, and four steals. Molly Shoop had five points, three assists, and two steals. Sydnee Brooks had two points, five boards, and three steals. Natalie Allen had two boards. Morgan McCormick had 12 points, 14 boards, four assists, and five steals. Kendra Gladbach had 22 points, 10 boards, three assists, and seven steals. Kelsey Gardner had two points, and four boards. Madison McCormick had nine points, three boards, three assists, and two steals.
In the nightcap, the Tigers lost to the Cardinals 64-53. "We came out and played with great effort and were in the game until late," said Coach O'Laughlin. "South Shelby's size was a match-up problem for us inside. It is time to get ready for the Monroe City Tournament next week."
Blake Linebaugh had one board, five assists, and one steal. Daniel Corbin had one board and one steal. Frankie Herring had four points, three boards, and three assists. Chase Hilsabeck had 27 points, three boards, and five steals. Brett McGlothlin had 18 points, four boards, three assists, and four steals. Shane Weimer had four points, and two boards.
