The Bucklin/Macon County basketball teams opened their 2012-13 season's home schedule by hosting Hale at the gym in New Cambria last night. The Lady Raiders lost a close one, while the Raiders grabbed a big win.
n the opening game, the Lady Raiders took the floor for the second time since Saturday against the Lady Cardinals. Hale opened on a 5-0 run to take an early lead. Four straight points by Bailey Ratliff answered for BMC. Another 6-0 run deepened the Lady Raiders deficit. But late hoops by Ratliff, Amanda Liebhart, and Kailey Grinder tightened the game up. After one quarter, BMC trailed 15-10.
A steal and hoop by Rachel Akins started the second quarter for BMC. Hale responded with a 4-0 run to re-extend their lead. But, BMC rallied to close the gap to one after a three-pointer by Grinder. A late free throw helped keep the Lady Raiders down 21-19 at the half.
In the nightcap, the Raiders opened on a 4-0 run with hoops by Dillan Nolte and Alex Porter. Two three-pointers by Nolte would respond to the end of BMC's first run and extend the Raiders lead. After one quarter. BMC lead Hale 18-9.
An opening bucket by Porter set the Raiders off on a 6-0 lead in the second frame. Hale would make a minor run to close their deficit back to single digits, but a steal by Dakota Peterson and hoop by Brady Duncan would end that flurry of offense. At the half, BMC lead 32-24.
