The Marceline High School basketball programs are spending this week playing at the annual Monroe City basketball tournament. The Lady Tigers and Tigers were both seeded fifth at the event.
Last night, the Lady Tigers took on Louisiana in the consolation bracket with their tournament life on the line. The Lady Bulldogs led off with a basket, but Kendra Gladbach set the Lady Tigers off on a 7-0 run to take the lead. Marceline would not trail again in this game. Buckets from Natalie Allen and Kate Peiffer would put the Lady Tigers on a 4-0 run to end the frame. After one quarter, Marceline led 11-4.
The Lady Tigers did not shoot very well offensively in the second quarter, and Louisiana would drain a three-pointer to finally end the scoreless streak in the frame. Gladbach would answer with four points to get Marceline on the board. At the half, Marceline led 15-9.
“It was a miserable night shooting,” said Coach O’Laughlin. “I don’t know how any shots we missed under the basket tonight. That is what cost us against Paris the other night. We have to fix that, and I won’t back off of that until its fixed.”
