The Meadville High School basketball teams hosted Hardin-Central on Friday night for a pair of CLAA Conference games. The Eagles and Lady Eagles won both games on this night to send the home crowd happy.
Erin Shiflett scored the opening basket of the game off of an assist by Halee Neal after both teams started slowly. Hardin went on a run from there to take the lead, but the Lady Eagles battled back to take an 8-5 lead after one quarter.
Hardin scored first in the second frame, but a three-pointer by Emilie Cowan from Sara VanDyke answered for Meadville. Hardin would fight back, and tie the game at 11-11 after an extended scoring drought by both teams. A pair of free throws by Neal and a three-pointer by Cowan answered for the Lady Eagles to retake the lead. At the half, Meadville led 16-14.
In the nightcap, the Eagles came out with a barrage of aerial shots from downtown. Three-pointers from Derek Smith, TJ Schmitz, and Cade Shiflett gave Meadville a big early lead. After one quarter, the Eagles led 29-8.
Sheldon Guilford started the scoring in the second quarter for Meadville with a three-pointer. The Eagles offense would continue to fire fairly well in the frame, but Hardin’s size and physicality would allow them to score as well. Still, the Eagles would extend their lead to 41-21 at the half.
