  • The Brookfield High School basketball teams are on winning streaks for both the Dogs and Lady Dogs. The Brookfield girls are on a four game streak, while the boys are on a two game streak. Both of these streaks, of course, include last night's Conference wins.
Last night at home, the Lady Dogs started off quickly against Mark Twain in their first Clarence Cannon Conference game of the season.
Miranda White scored five of Brookfield's first seven points, in a frame which saw the Lady Dogs amass a number of steals and assists. A number of the varsity players saw time in the quarter. After one quarter was in the books, the Lady Dogs led 19-8.
Sydney Thompson and Sassie Matzen had back-to-back steals to start the second quarter for Brookfield. Matzen cleaned up underneath the boards, netting a number of putbacks en route to 13 total points in the game.
"It was rough inside," said Matzen. "I'm just glad we got to play as team, together, no one was selfish."
Late steals by Samantha Gonzalez and Bailey Parks helped keep the Lady Dogs on top by 41-10 at the half. Brookfield allowed only two points in the second quarter.
In the boys game, the Dogs responded with a hoop by Neeley after an opening bucket from Mark Twain. Still, the Tigers drained four three-pointers to open up a sizable lead on the home team. After one quarter, Brookfield trailed 26-14.
Liebhart drained a pair of free throws to start the second quarter for the Dogs. A trifecta of three-pointers by Mark Twain countered the Dogs inside game, and kept Brookfield down 44-26 at the half.
