  • On December 11, 2012, Marilyn Louise Schreiner left the cares of this world for the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by loving and caring friends.
She was born in Brookfield, Missouri on November 19, 1926 to Charles and Mary Agnes Schreiner.  She attended the Catholic elementary school and public High School in Brookfield.  She entered the convent of Benedictine sisters at Atchison, KS in 1947, where she was known as Sister Mary Roger.  Teaching became the love of her life, spending 45 years as teacher and several years as principal in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado.  In 1967, God opened another door for Marilyn.  She continued teaching, fulfilling 45 years.  Marilyn attended Mt. St. Scholastica College; Creighton University receiving a B.S in Elementary Education; CMSU in Warrensburg, MO, receiving a master’s degree in Special Education.  From 1967 to 1975 she taught Special Education in the Raytown School District.
Marilyn enjoyed sports of all kind; photography, loved to read and enjoyed gatherings on all occasions with friends.  She was a devout member of St. Thomas More parish since 1974.  Marilyn loved to attend daily mass and cherished the love of the Holy Eucharist.  She will be remembered by the St. Thomas More parish for her seventeen years as a dedicated teacher in the elementary school.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Agnes (Schaefer) Schreiner.  She is survived by a sister Marjorie (Joe) Meissen of Wein, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends; and her faithful friend and caregiver, Vivian Adele Wurtz.  The family is most grateful to the Catholic Community Hospice for their excellent care.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 14th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 5:00 p.m.  There will also be a visitation on Saturday, December 15th, from 11:30 a.m., to 12:00 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brookfield, MO, with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Church, or Catholic Charities of NE Kansas; Catholic Community Hospice, or to Mt. St. Scholastica Convent.
