  • The Missouri Police Chiefs Association (MPCA) has selected veteran Brookfield Police Chief Dave Hane to receive the statewide Excellence In Leadership Award.
The prestigious award, given to one police chief in Missouri annually, recognizes those law enforcers who have distinguished themselves and their agency through their commitment to public service and safety. What follows are some of the comments Brookfield Mayor Jack Forbes recently offered in support of Chief Hane’s candidacy for the Excellence In Leadership Award. Forbes voiced his support during the recent Missouri Police Chiefs Conference held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Jefferson City.
Chief Hane has devoted his entire working career of public service to the citizens of Brookfield, Missouri.  First and foremost as a Police Officer, he worked his way up through the ranks to be appointed Chief of Police at age 30. While not knowing statewide statistics in regard to longevity of Police Chief’s, Chief Hane’s 30 plus years of continuous employment as Chief may not be a state record, but will surely rank among the top few in the state for being Police Chief with one department.  This speaks well for his ability to manage his department with ever changing standards for training and constant technological upgrades, while providing services to our citizens within an acceptable budget.  His firm and fair attitude has successfully kept him as the leader of the Police Department through 9 City Managers and 23 different City Council member changes in those 30 years.  When the City Council decided not to renew our last City Manager’s contract, we asked Chief Hane to act as City Manager and to keep his position as Police Chief.  As expected, Chief Hane accepted the responsibility.  Using his organizational and budgeting skills to formulate a plan, the City averted financial disaster. That was 8 budgets and 7 years ago. Obviously the City Council has been extremely satisfied with Chief Hane in his dual role as Police Chief and City Manager. Our City now enjoys healthy fund balances, while still providing competitive wage and benefit packages for all our employees and providing them with the equipment and resources to perform their respective duties, whether it be public safety or public works. As Mayor of the City of Brookfield I am proud to nominate Chief Dave Hane for this prestigious award.
