The Marceline High School basketball teams hosted Trenton last night. The Lady Tigers handed Trenton’s girls their first loss, and the Tigers got a hard-fought win.
Just over 1:40 into the game, Kendra Gladbach found Morgan McCormick for the opening basket. Trenton drained a three, but a hoop by Madison McCormick answered. The teams played evenly in the opening frame, and the contest was tied 6-6 after one quarter.
Trenton opened a six point lead in the first two minutes of the second quarter. The Lady Tigers fought, but Trenton opened a nine point lead at the half, 26-17.
In the boys game, Brett McGlothlin responded to an opening basket by Trenton just over a minute into the game. A three from Chase Hilsabeck and a hoop by Frankie Herring would extend Marceline’s lead. Trenton would take a late lead, but a buzzer-beater by McGlothlin would give the Tigers an 11-10 lead after one quarter.
A three by McGlothlin opened the second frame, and the Tigers defense held Trenton scoreless for approximately two-and-a-half minutes in the beginning of the quarter. Trenton went on a run a minute later, and tied the game. A hoop by Daniel Corbin gave the Tigers back the lead with 20 seconds left in the half. At halftime, Marceline led 20-19.
