  • Gerald G. Sportsman, 81, Marceline died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline, with Rev. Brian Baker officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Pallbearers will be Daryl, Duane, Gerry, Gary and Jamie Sportsman, Jason Maag, Mark Hull, and Gerald Sparks.
    Memorials may be made to Marceline Nutrition Center may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, Mo. 64658.
    Gerald was born December 15, 1931, in Marceline, son of Robert Kenneth and Ida Thelma (Hayes) Sportsman. He married Adra Luvella Fields on March 3, 1956. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2005.
    Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army earning a Purple Heart in the Korean War.  He had worked for the City of Marceline in the street department. He was a former member of the VFW and American Legion, Marceline, and a Marceline resident all his life.
    Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Daryl and Marlene Sporstman, Moberly, Duane Sportsman, Carrolton, Gerry Sportsman, and Gary and Amy Sportsman, Marceline; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Denise Wolfskill, Janie and Terry Sparks, all of Marceline, Denna Maag, Salisbury, and Danette and Jerry King, Gleason, Wisc.; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Roy Cagle, Marceline; grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Jamie, Angie, Rhonda, Genny, Cody, Mark, Rachel, Dusta, Kelly, Katie, Gavin, Brandi, Gerald, Tiffany, Natasha, Kayla, Ava and Ella; and great grandchildren, Tye, Emma, Caleb, Dalton, Kyle, Skylar, Jagger, Jacob, Asher, Adra, Case, Piper, Addie, Anthony, Conner, Zoe, Jazzlyn, Kennadi, and Hunter.
    He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a great-granddaughter, Paizlee.
