  • Howard Lyle Beaird, 85 Chillicothe, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 201,3 at Life Care Center of Carrollton.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. There will be a private family burial.
     The family requests memorials be made to Stephen Heil to help with Alynn Heil’s medical bills for the treatment of a brain tumor, they may be left at or mailed the funeral home, 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe, Mo 64601. On line condolences may be left at www.heritage-becausewecare.com.
    Howard was the fourth son of Arley Eli Beaird and Gertrude (Harris) Beaird, born January 30, 1927, in rural Livingston County, near Wheeling. On March 31, 1951, Howard married Betty Jo Dawkins at her mother’s home in Chillicothe.
    Howard was a graduate of Wheeling High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany during World War II. He served from November 1945 through September 1948. He was a farmer and business man in Livingston and Linn Counties. He owned and operated the Skelly Truck Stops, Brookfield. He was also formerly a car salesman and police dispatcher in Brookfield. He was a member of the Wheeling Baptist Church, Moila Shrine, VFW, and both the Chillicothe and Brookfield Eagles and Elks.
    Survivors include his wife Betty Jo, of the home; son, William Lyle Beaird, Independence; daughters, Nancy Jo Parks (John), Chillicothe, and Linda Carol Chittum (Robert), Willard; six grandchildren, Betsy Lee (Don), Willard Melissa Heil (Steve), Springfield, Bryan Chittum, Willard, Katie Dodd, Chicago Ill., Amy Dodd and Zachary Parks, Chillicothe; eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tilman, and Alynn Heil, Springfield, and Shelly Chittum, Rebekah and Cameron Lee, Ivy Chittum and Easton Chittum, Willard; a brother Cleo Beaird, Blue Springs; nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leland and Lloyd Beaird; nephew Lee E. Beaird Jr.
