  • The Bucklin/Macon County Co-op basketball teams wrapped up their second and third rounds at the Marceline Tiger Hoops Classic last week and over the weekend. The teams were swept by eventual champions Glasgow, and the Raiders won their third place game.
In the third place game, the BMC girls took on Milan. The Lady Raiders fell behind early as Milan opened on a 5-0 run in the first 2:30. This ended with a basket by Ratliff. Jochem would find two hoops, with Grinder earning an assist, and help pull the BMC girls back into the game. After one quarter, the Lady Raiders trailed 13-9.
The teams were scoreless for just over the first 90 seconds of the second frame. A pair of free throws by Grinder at the three minute mark would respond to the opening basket by Milan. A mid-frame 8-0 run by Milan would deepen the deficit for the BMC girls. At halftime, the Lady Raiders trailed 27-18.
In the boys third place game, the Raiders took on Bevier. The Wildcats opened up on fire from downtown, draining a trio of three-pointers. BMC responded with baskets from Tim Akins and Dillan Nolte. The Raiders would respond late in the frame with three-pointers by Lake McCollum and Daniel Hernandez to pull within one point, 21-20, after one quarter.
Just over one minute into the second frame, a basket by Damon Porter gave BMC the lead for the first time in the game.
“We missed some shots early,” said Porter. “But we got it together, hit some three-pointers, some and-one’s, and it feels good to pull out a win.”
This lead would grow to nine points, thanks to a 12-0 run. After this. The teams would score evenly until the halftime break. At the half, the Raiders led 39-30.
