Tigers, Lady Tigers, Both Take Second

In the Championship games of the 2013 Tiger Hoops Classic, the hosting Marceline teams would take on the Glasgow teams in a pair of one-two battles. Both of these contests against state-ranked teams were closer than many thought they would be, but the local teams still came out on the short end of these games.

In the girls game, the Lady Tigers sister act of Madison and Morgan McCormick responded to an opening three-pointer with a pair of baskets and a pair of free throws to take an early lead. Kendra Gladbach added two free throws as well to cap Marceline’s opening 9-0 run. Glasgow would battle back with a 5-0 run to draw within one, but the Lady Tigers would lead 13-10 after one quarter.
The teams were scoreless in the first three minutes of the second quarter, ending with a single free throw by Glasgow. To go with a pair of early steals, Sydnee Brooks would score the first field goal of the frame for Marceline. At the half, the Lady Tigers led 19-17.

In the boys game, the teams scored back-and-forth in the first 3:30. The Tigers baskets came from Brett McGlothln and Blake Linebaugh. Glasgow would take the lead with a 4-0 run over the next minute, but the Tigers would continue to battle, with hoops and a free throw by Brennen Floray answering. After one quarter, the Tigers trailed 18-14.
The teams exchanged baskets in the opening minute of the second quarter with Daniel Corbin scoring for Marceline. A three-pointer by Chase Hilsabeck just north of the five minute mark would give the Tigers back the lead and would start a 7-0 run. At halftime, Marcelne led 34-28.
