The Bucklin/Macon County co-op had their first Homecoming together on Friday night at New Cambria, as the teams hosted Northwestern. BMC would fight valiantly in both games, but would lose early leads in both games.
In the girls game, the Lady Raiders and Lady Eagles played evenly in the beginning of the game. A pair of three-pointers by Kailey Grinder would prove the difference. Northwestern would battle back late in the frame, catching fire from downtown, and BMC would lead 13-12 after one quarter.
Three points from Savannah Jochem, as well as a three-pointer from Grinder would start the second quarter off well for the Lady Raiders. This would make a period of over three minutes where BMC held Northwestern scoreless. The Lady Eagles would utilize the three-pointer again in the midpoint of the frame to draw within one of the Lady Raiders. But, a shot from downtown by Bailey Ratliff would help keep the BMC girls on top 26-25 at the half.
In the boys game, following the Homecoming coronations for both schools (see elsewhere in the LCL), Northwestern struck first with a three-pointer. But five straight points by Lake McCollum answered back for BMC. McCollum would score the first eight points for the Raiders, and a basket by Alex Porter would give BMC the lead just over the 4:00 mark. The game would remain close, and the Raiders led 12-10 after one quarter.
Northwestern would open the second frame with a 5-0 run to take the lead. A basket by Damon Porter at the 2:45 mark would answer for BMC. Another three-ball by McCollum would tie the game again at the 4:14 mark. At just under the six minute mark a three by Dylan Liebhart would give the Raiders back the lead. But, a late surge by the Eagles put BMC down 26-22 at the half.
