The Linn County R-1 basketball teams hosted Novinger last night at the Eldon Tietsort Gymnasium. The girls game was a rematch from last week at the Milan Tournament.
Megan Schreiner and Cammie Ward combined to bring the Lady Mustangs out of the locker room and onto a 4-0 run in the first 2:30. Kerstin Wilson would add a buzzer-beater to put Linn County up 10-4 after one quarter.
Novinger struck first just over a minute into the second frame, and embarked on a 4-0 run in the first 2:57. The run ended there with a hoop by Schreiner, and started the Lady Mustangs on an 8-0 run that lasted for five minutes. At halftime, Linn County led 25-11.
In the boys game, the Mustangs came out on fire from three-point land. Ty Stillwell drained three and Josh Allen drained two in the opening minutes of the opening frame. After one quarter, Linn County led 23-7.
The teams scored evenly in the opening minutes of the second quarter, with local baskets coming from Allen and Logan Brinkley. The teams would score back-and-forth in the first half of the frame, with the Mustangs bench seeing time on the floor. At halftime, Linn County led 31-19.
