Katherine A. (Newlon) McGuire, 76, Mendon, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Brookfield.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Len Taylor officiating. Visitation with the family was held from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the funeral chapel. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Katherine Ann McGuire was born October 25, 1936, in Red Oak, Iowa, daughter of Adolph and Dorothy (Hopkins) Holm. She was united in marriage to Billy Newlon on June 10, 1966, in Red Oak, Iowa. He preceded her in death. She married Donald McGuire on October 29, 1988.
Katherine was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. She lived in Plattsmouth, Neb., before moving to Anamosa, Iowa, where she worked at a nursing home and was a bartender. She moved back to Red Oak in 1981 and worked at Good Samaritan Care Center. She moved to Mendon in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Donald McGuire,Mendon; her children Doug Edwards and wife, Susan, Long Grove, Iowa, Dan Rusk and wife, Amanda, Reno, Nev., Karen Kranz and husband, Rich, Watertown, S.D., and Kevin Newlon and wife, Angie, Red Oak, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Jan Clark, Clarinda, Iowa; grandchildren, Marta Edwards, Long Grove, Iowa, Stacey Edwards, Florida, Nicole, Brandon, and Jeanette Rusk, Reno, Nev., Matthew and Jennifer Kranz, Watertown, S.D., Andrea Clark, Clarinda, Iowa, Christian Jones and husband, Matt, Buckeye, Ariz., and Desiree Newlon, Red Oak, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Breanna Kinser, and Samantha and Madison Newlon, Red Oak, Iowa, Austin and Collin Jones, Buckeye, Ariz., and Natasha Edwards, Florida; step-son, Billy Newlon, Jr., Fremont, Neb.; step-daughter, Lyda Marie Gladbach and husband, Ronnie, Mendon; brother, Fred Holm and wife, Penny, Shenandoah, Iowa; sister, Carolyn Blay, Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Kenneth Clark; grandson, Aaron Clark; and sister, Nadine Johnson.
