The Brookfield Lady Dogs softball team completed their journey at last week’s Macon Tournament with a Clarence Cannon Conference battle against South Shelby.
truck first 45 seconds into the game, and Brookfield responded with a 6-0 run with points by Alesa Frey and Bailey Parks. The run lasted until just under the two minute mark. Another 6-0 run with points by Miranda White and Sassie Matzen opened the Brookfield lead up to 19-10 after one quarter.
Maggie Almond found Frey for the opening basket of the second quarter just under a minute in. At the 5:39 mark, White found Frey to put the Lady Dogs up by double the points of South Shelby. A late three-pointer by Sydney Thompson put Brookfield up 37-18 at the half.
A slight bit of consternation for the Lady Dogs and their fans was in the tournament structure that did not allow the Brookfield girls to play for any place other than first or consolation after their first round win.
This meant that the lowest-seeded team in the tournament, a team that the Lady Dogs defeated in the first round, actually got to finish higher than the Brookfield girls at the event. Still, the Lady Dogs continue to improve with each game, and this is the most important thing for Coach White and his team.
