Fern Gillespie Blunt, 94, Brookfield, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Pershing Memorial Hospital, Brookfield.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Park Baptist Church, Brookfield, with Rev. David Blakely officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 that evening. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Brookfield.
Ellen Fern was born November 9, 1918, in Ethel, daughter of Gilbert and Evelyn (Behymer) Ratliff. On May 1, 1937, she married Joseph Gillespie. On January 23, 1971, she married Wesley Blunt. He preceded her in death April 9, 1991.
Fern was a sales clerk at L & O Sales, Brookfield, for many years, had been a bookkeeper for Mar-Brook Farms, Brookfield, and had worked in sales with Universal Publishing. She was a member of Park Baptist Church, Brookfield, where she was active in many church organizations and was a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include her children, Margaret Payne, Hannibal, Jean and husband, Larry Shoop, Paola, Kan., Karen Miller, Raleigh, N.C., Homer and wife, Judy Gillespie, Kansas City, Judy and husband, Lester Taylor, Brookfield, Jack and wife, Bridget Gillespie, Lawrence, Kan., Gary and wife, Terri Blunt, Connie Blunt, and Jim Blunt, all of Owasso, Mich., and Robert Blunt, Pittsburg, Kan.; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Joyce Ratliff, St. Charles; two sisters-in-law, Monti Lou Ratliff, Brookfield, and Evelyn Hessenflow, Heneretta; a brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Gloria Taylor, Camdenton; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Joe Gillespie; two daughters, Donna Bailey and Shirley Simpson; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Reese and Sam Ratliff; and one sister, Ramah Taylor.
