  • Minnie Maxine McElfresh, 82, Beardstown, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield.
    She was born November 3, 1930, in Marblehead, IL, the daughter of August and Mary Wilson Smith. She married William D. “Billy Mac” McElfresh on October 17, 1949, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2009.
    Surviving are her sons Gary (wife Shelia), Quincy, Bruce (wife Melanie), Brookfield, MO, Rick (wife Patricia), Jefferson City, MO, and Brad (wife Terri) McElfresh, Springfield; seven grandchildren, Tara McElfresh, Hermosa Beach, CA, Luke McElfresh, Hobart, IN, Tess McElfresh, Kansas City, MO, Wade McElfresh, Springfield, MO, Max McElfresh, Springfield, IL, Mitchell McElfresh, Jefferson City, MO; two sisters, Inez Bailey, Quincy and Shirley (husband Gary) Bowen, Canton, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson Matthew McElfresh, three sisters Celia Cooper, Mae Goodwin, and Norma Miller, and nine brothers August Jr. “June”, Earl, Ralph “Peck”, Jim (surviving wife Edna Smith of Quincy), Billy, Carl “Cork”, Clifford, Delbert, and Tomas Smith.
    Minnie graduated from Seymour Community High School in Payson, IL in 1949. She was employed as a teacher’s aide for the Beardstown Public Schools for 19 years, and she also worked at the Beardstown Public Library. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown where she served as Sunday School teacher. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed playing cards with her “Club Girls”. Minnie had a very kind and caring heart, was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother and will be sadly missed.
    Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 2013, at Perry Wells Cemetery, near Pleasant Hill. The family met with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown.
