The Way I See It
My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

The Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team played their most complete game of basketball in several weeks and possibly the entire year as they easily defeated Ole Miss on Saturday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.  The Tigers controlled the game from the opening tip and were never really threatened or challenged at any point during the game.  The same team that was totally dominated by Ole Miss in their first meeting returned the favor in the rematch.  Phil Pressey played by far his best game in many weeks and he was totally in the game from start to finish and it was a complete effort all the way around.  Missouri is still looking for its first road win in the SEC and their next chance for that will be Wednesday night as they travel to Mississippi State.

Both Truman State basketball teams wrapped up what turned out to be a rather unpleasant road trip by losing both games at Northeastern Oklahoma this past Saturday.  The men were once again in the game until the very end when a strange set of circumstances led to Northeastern Oklahoma being able to complete a four point play that sealed the game for them.  Once again the Bulldogs did everything but win.  The women struggled offensively against a very game Northeastern OK team that did a good job of stiffening the Bulldogs offense.  Both teams are in action again on Thursday night at home against Southwest Baptist who they just played two weeks ago.

Congratulations to the Kirksville High School wrestling team on their outsanding showing at districts over the weekend.  The team now heads to the state tournament which starts on Thursday in Columbia.  Kirksville has to be considered one of the favorites for the team title once again.

The KHS basketball teams split their double header with Mexico last Friday night with the girls improving to 10 and 0 in conference play with a hard fought victory while the boys lost to a very talented Mexico squad.  The atmosphere at the Kirksville Primary School was outstanding Friday night and it was a joy to be part of it.  Both teams are back in action on Tuesday with the boys having a home game against Fulton while the girls travel to Fulton.

Never mind what the groundhog says the real sign for me that spring is on its way is when pitchers and catchers report to spring training which is happening right now.  The first full scale work out for pitchers and catchers for the St. Louis Cardinals is on Tuesday with the rest of the position players due to report later this week.

We’ll be back on Wednesday with our usual mid week blog where we will try to get caught up on a few things we’ve missed over the past week or so.  Please support all the blogs on this site and thank you so much for taking the time to read this one.

Have a terrific Monday!
