  • The Marceline High School basketball teams have been on quite the winning streak lately. The teams traveled to Westran late last week, and hosted LaPlata last night. The event at Tiger Fieldhouse was senior night for the teams.
In the girls game, the Lady Tigers simply outclassed their opponents, taking the lead on a large opening run and not looking back. In that first quarter, play from Sydnee Brooks, Abby Gauthier and Kendra Gladbach moved the Lady Tigers along.
In the second frame, Marceline moved the game inside with Madison and a Morgan McCormick not letting much past them in the paint. Molly Shoop and Kelsey Gardner would shine defensively for the Lady Tigers, showing fire all over the court.
In the end, the Lady Tigers lead was so great that the team was able to play all of their players for a good bit of time in the second half. Marceline won this game by a final score of 53-40.
In a bit of Lady Tigers trivia, the recent LCC Championship was the first one secured by Marceline’s girls in 20 years.
In the nightcap, the Tigers and LaPlata played close early on, and throughout the first quarter. A special note had to be made about the effort of some of the Tigers players.
Chase Hilsabeck was a man among boys in the game, containing LaPlata’s talented point guard and scoring. Brett McGlothlin was all over the court on both offense and defense.  Brennen Floray was back to form as a dominant force in the paint.
Blake Linebaugh and Frankie Herring also made their presence felt. The Tigers would go on a 20-5 run to close the first half, and would not look back. Throughout the third frame, the Marceline boys built their lead to just under the mercy clock amount. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers subbed out their starters to allow all of the team to see quality playing time. Marceline won this game by a final score of 65-37.
