Brandon Williams of Missouri Southern was in the NFL Combine this week. Williams, a defensive tackle for MSSU, had a good week tying for the most reps of the 225 Bench Press and running a 5.3 40 time. Most reports project that he will either be a first or second round NFL draft pick. Williams was a three-time All-America performer while at Southern set the all-time sack record even though he played inside on the defensive line. Most sack leaders come from the outside defensive end positions. Brandon is very agile and quick for a defensive lineman. He was often double teamed when opponents played Missouri Southern knowing that he was Southern's best defensive performer. MSSU has previously produced NFL players Terry Joyce, a punter for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1970s; Rod Smith, an All- Pro wide receiver for the Denver Broncos; Richard Jordan, a linebacker for the Detroit Lions; James Thrash, a wide receiver who played for the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles; and, most recently, Allen Barbre, an offensive lineman with the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins. It will be interesting to see how Brandon Williams' career develops in pro football and the kind of success in the NFL he could have.
