A destroyer escort vessel named in memory of Lt. John Porter Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gray, formerly of Prairie Hill, and well-known in the Marceline community, will be christened Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa., by the mother of Lt. Porter. Porter lost his life June 4, 1942, in the Battle of Midway. Lieutenant Gray was a member of a squadron of 15 torpedo planes from the U.S.S. Hornet. Only one of the 30 men in the squadron, Ensign G.H. Gray, Houston, Texas, survived the attack.
