Carol Lynn (Hortenstine) Stockton, 61, died Sunday evening, March 17, 2013.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to her memorial scholarship fund at North Kansas City Schools Educational Foundation 2000 N.E. 46th Street, Kansas City, MO 64116
Carol was born June 24, 1951, daughter of Dean E. and Mary Frances Hortenstine.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of Missouri in 1972 and began her career as a vocal music teacher that year. She taught in districts of Kansas City, KS and North Kansas City (MO) Public Schools, where she taught at New Mark Middle School and, more recently, at Chapel Hill Elementary School. During her career she was recognized on several occasions for her teaching excellence. She was a deacon and active choir member at Village Presbyterian Church. She was the founder of the Share-a-Song ministry, which is a small choir that sings for people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Survivors include her husband, M J Stockton; a son; Eric Stockton; her mother, Mary Frances Hortenstine; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Lynne Hortenstine, Brookfield; nephews, Matthew Hortenstine and wife, Stephanie, Paul Hortenstine, and John Hortenstine and wife, Karen; uncles, Howard Tolen, Georgia, and Dan Hortenstine, Topeka, Kan.; and a number of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dean E Hortenstine; and her son, Patrick Jay Stockton.
