William “Bill” Matkins, 89, Purdin, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at McLarney Manor, Brookfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield, with Rev. Ted Stockwell officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6-8 that evening. Burial will be in Purdin Cemetery, Purdin.

William Darrell was born January 4, 1924, in Milan, son of George and Nina (Smith) Matkins. On April 9, 1955, he married Helen Lou Johnson.
Bill had been a farmer all of his life. He had been a member of the United Methodist Church, Purdin, and was now attending Bear Branch United Methodist Church, Purdin. He was a 50-year member of Jackson Lodge 82, Linneus.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Matkins, Purdin; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Don Rusk, Meadville; one step-daughter and her husband, Linda and Parry Clark, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Shannon and husband, Ray Messersmith, Jacksonville, Fla., Chad and wife, Cindy Jacobs, Thomaston, Ga., Shawn and wife, Jamie Wood, and Tim Wood, all of Meadville, and Lindsey and husband, Jason Moore, Fairview, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Kendall and Erin Messersmith, Jacksonville, Fla., Meghan and Patrick Jacobs, Thomaston, Ga., Kasie and Hannah Boyd and Morgan Wood, all of Meadville, and Rudy Moore, Fairview, N.C.; and one sister, Marie Gooch, Meadville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Aubrey Gooch.
