Get to know Marceline City Council candidate Jeri Holt.
1. Tell us a little about your background, what you believe qualifies you to serve, and why you chose to run for a seat on the Marceline City Council. How long have you lived in Marceline? If you weren’t born and raised in Marceline, what prompted you to relocate to Marceline?
I was born and raised in Marceline. I have been a resident of Marceline all my life. I served on the City Council for 8.5 years and served as Mayor for 2 years.
I am running for City Council because I care about the citizens and town of Marceline. I want to help our town continue to grow and be successful.
2. Please name an issue or challenge you believe the City of Marceline needs to resolve. Why do you think it is so important to resolve this issue? How do you suggest that the City go about meeting this challenge, and how can you personally contribute to the resolution?
I feel that one of the issues the city needs to put more focus on is with Prairie State Electric to resolve the electric rates in Marceline. The Citizens, businesses, and manufacturing companies of this town are what make Marceline grow, so we want to focus on maintaining them and attract new business.
3. What, in your opinion, are Marceline’s greatest resources? What can you do to, if you are elected to the City Council, to retain and build upon those resources?
We have great resources like the Fire, Police, and first responders. The People of Marceline give great support to these departments.
Marceline Parks and streets are clean and look nice.
If elected to City Council I would continue to support these resources and more.
The City of Marceline has a lot of great events that take place all year long. I feel this is a great thing for our town.
4. Do you believe that as a Councilman or Councilwoman you should be able to retain a copy of the City Budget to refer to at your leisure? Why or why not?
Yes, I would like a copy of the city budget to see that we are not spending money outside out budget. I am a firm believer that if you don’t have the money in the budget then do not spend it.
I would like it updated every month so if I have a citizen of Marceline asks me about the budget I can answer them.
