The importance of our public spaces has been shown time and again in countless studies. It is these gathering places for our towns where the community really seems to come together. In Bucklin, the park has fallen into disrepair in places, and a concerned group of citizens has taken to the newly-popular internet crowd funding method to remedy the situation.
It all began a few weeks ago, when Darla Noah was approached by her friend Tammy Standley, who wanted to help give the children around Bucklin a place to hang out and play. The pair felt strongly enough about their park and its need for a major overhaul that they decided to spring into action.
The pair, now collectively known as “Darla ‘N Tammy,” approached the Bucklin City Council for permission to move forward on the project. The Council approved them to spearhead the project, but noted that the City did not have the funds to help.
“The City does not have it in their budget at this time,” said Darla. “The City’s streets, sewer, city vehicles, etc., are more critical, which is understandable. But they were very supportive of the idea and gave us permission to proceed.”
The dedicated pair did some research, and came up with a list of items that they would like to make sure their park contains.
- Replace swings and chains
- Build a wooden playhouse
- Add a merry-go-round
- Add two spring riders
- Replace the concrete basketball court
- Add a play structure (includes ladders, slides, monkey bars, etc.)
