  • The MFA Oil Foundation has donated $2,000 to Brookfield Parks and Recreation to help fund some much needed improvements at the Rusk Park South Baseball/Softball Field. Specifically, the MFA Oil grant funds will be “applied toward the cost of rebuilding the announcer’s booth at the Rusk Park South Baseball/Softball Field.” As Brookfield Parks and Recreation Board President Mike Lichtenberg explains, “The existing announcer’s booth is not large enough to house announcers, scoreboard operators and official scorekeepers, as well as their equipment. The electronic equipment is exposed to wet weather conditions and is not able to be secured properly.”
As a donor, the MFA Oil Foundation is described by MFA Oil President Jerry Taylor as “a program that allows our company to give support back to small towns ands rural communities that are the foundation of our business.” Taylor explains that the process of selecting who to donate to involves evaluating the prospective recipient or program on one or more of the following criteria: (1) “The program is designed to build knowledge and leadership skills of rural youth;” (2) The program is agricultural or involves cooperative education; and/or (3) The organization being considered is “active in addressing and solving community problems and improving the quality of life.”
The announcer’s booth renovation will include the replacement of the current public address system speakers and, if sufficient funds are donated, the replacement of the entire public address system. “The cost of the amplifier wouldn’t be much more than what we’ll have to pay to replace those malfunctioning speakers if you buy the whole thing as a package deal,” says Brookfield Parks and Recreation veteran Director Karen Grant. “It just depends on how much money we can raise, but it makes a lot of sense to replace the whole system rather than just the speakers when we get a more weather resistant booth to house the amplifier.”
