  • Virgil Cassity, 92, Excelsior Springs, formerly of Brookfield, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab Excelsior Springs.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Brookfield, with Rev. Mike White officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield, with the family will receiving friends from 4 until 6 that evening. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield.
    Memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, PO Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.
    Virgil Leroy was born, March 10, 1921, in New Boston, son of Clarence and Lora Bell (McCollum) Cassity. On December 31, 1941, he married Effie Jean Campfield.
    Virgil was a US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He had worked as District Meter Tester for Ameren UE for many years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Brookfield. He was also a member of Brookfield Masonic Lodge and Brookfield Kiwanis Club.
    Survivors include his wife, Effie Jean, Excelsior Springs; two daughters, Sharon Van Liere and husband, Charles, Union and Donna Simmons and husband, John, Kearney; two granddaughters, Sarah Seeck and husband, Brian and Julie Spalding and husband, Pat; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Madison, and Brady Seeck and Ellie and Lucas Spalding; and a sister-in-law, Hettie Cassity of Jefferson City.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Janet Lee Cassity; one brother, Elton Cassity; and one sister, Ruby Ellen James and husband, A.R.
