Tuesday evening, the Brookfield City Council certified the results of the municipal election that was held earlier this month. Oaths of office were then given to election winners Lonnie Trentham (new Councilman), Martha Beach (incumbent winner who had completed Don Riepe’s term on the Council), and Richard Techau (incumbent who retained his seat on the Council).
— Oaths of office were administered to the following by current City Clerk Dana Tarpening: Rick German has been promoted from Assistant Chief to Chief of Police, and Donna Barger has been hired as the new City Clerk, replacing Tarpening who the Council has appointed City Manager.
— Upon the nominations of Councilman Don Fuhrhop, Jack Forbes was unanimously re-elected Mayor, and Richard Techau was re-elected Mayor Pro Tem.
— City Manager Dave Hane advised the Council that a small lot the City owns in the 800 block of Snow St. had been previously advertised but no bids were received. Norman Slaughter subsequently offered $150, so Hane asked for the Council’s blessing to go ahead and sell the lot at that price. The Council has consented to that sale.
— Last month, the Council had tabled rock bids until the surcharge issue could be explored. Leo O’Laughlin had the low bids for rock with the understanding that if diesel fuel reached $4-a-gallon, a surcharge for delivery of the rock would be charged. O’Laughlin has since agreed to waive the surcharge, so the Council accepted his low bid for rock.
