  • Here's something you may not know about actor Ray McKinnon: He won an Academy Award for writing and directing the 2001 short film The Accountant. He's also the writer-creator of the new drama Rectify (Mondays, 10/9c, Sundance Channel), in which Aden Young stars as Daniel Holden, a man who is released from prison after serving 19 years for the rape and murder of his girlfriend. DNA evidence appears to clear Daniel, but plenty of folks in his hometown still believe he's guilty. McKinnon answered our showrunner survey to explain why viewers will be captivated by Rectify.

    TV Guide Magazine: Come up with a premise for the spin-off. McKinnon: Each week the star, an executioner by trade, has to deal with yet another prisoner being exonerated. As the pressure mounts relating to job security, the poor lethal injector contemplates suicide. It's an existential kitchen drama.
    TV Guide Magazine: If you weren't producing this show, what series would you most like to be an executive producer on? McKinnon: All of the CSIs.
    TV Guide Magazine: With what show would you like to do a crossover episode?McKinnon: The Good Wife. It would be the culture war on acid.
