Marceline Earns Team and Individual Medals
The Marceline Tigers golf team spent two beautiful days in the sun at Silo Ridge Country Club this week at the Missouri State High School Activities Association's State Golf Championships. The Tigers brought home another big trophy to MHS, and helped cap off a great sports year in Linn County as a whole.
On the first day of this two-day affair, Marceline held the team championship lead by a single stroke over Barat Academy 337-338. Tucker Dunham shot an 82, Trevor Hamilton shot a 98, Brett McGlothlin shot an 82, Brandon McGovern shot a 90 and Brandon Newman shot an 83.
On the second day, high winds in the morning and early afternoon affected scores across the board. Still, the Tigers saw some improvement on the links. At the end of the day, both Barat Academy and Louisiana had snuck in front of the Tigers, knocking the local boys down to third place.
Marceline's team score on day two was a 358, the fourth best team score on the day. Overall, though, Marceline shot a two-day score as a team of 695. Barat took first with a 670, Louisiana shot a 692, and Drexel came in fourth with a 697.
Individually on day two, Dunham shot an 88, Hamilton shot an 87, McGlothlin shot an 84, McGovern shot a 105 and Newman shot a 99. Both McGlothlin, with a two-day total of 166; and Dunham, with a two-day total of 170; placed as All-State Golfers in the top 15 scores.
Head Coach Matt Finch awarded medals to each of his players, and noted that an extra team medal is headed to the sixth member of their team, the late Zach Cupp, who was with the team the entire season.
