Holmes & Co. is a Blog for Independent Minds, a place for a free-flowing discussion of policy, news and opinion. This blog is the online cousin of the Opinion section of the MetroWest Daily News in Framingham, Mass. As such, our focus starts there and spreads to include Massachusetts, the nation and the world. Since successful blogs create communities of readers and writers, we hope the \x34& Co.\x34 will also come to include you.

As part and parcel of a Third Amendment project I’m working on for some folks in Washington, I’ve been preparing a bibliography on the rise of the warrior cop phenomenon.

In the Spring 2013 issue of the Independent Review, Abigail R. Hall and Christopher J. Coyne had an article called The Militarization of U.S. Domestic Policing. In the article on page 487, there is a cite to “Lodge 2011.” As part of this project, we follow up on all source materials. In the footnotes, it reads “Lodge, Richard K 2011: Police Investigation Details the Night Eurie Stamps Sr. Died. MetroWest Daily News, May 10.” Now, I have some issues with the article, and with the issue of blending the militarization of local police with the issue of the federalizing of police in the war on terror, but, hey, Richard has made the big time!
