  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty for his suspected role in the Boston Marathon bombings, as well as in the death of MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, The New York Times reports.
    Tsarnaev appeared in court Wednesday for arraingment after being indicted on 30 counts that included the use of a weapon of mass destruction that killed three people and injured more than 200, malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death, use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury.

    Wednesday's hearing was Tsarnaev's first public appearance since being captured in the days following the Boston Marathon bombings. At least 30 survivors were present at the hearing, which was also attended by his sisters. Tsarnaev's brother, Tamerlan, is believed to have played a major role in the bombings, as well as in the carjacking and the death of Collier. Tamerlan was killed following a shootout with police in Watertown, Mass., four days after the Boston Marathon tragedy.
    Tsarnaev could face life in prison or the death penalty on 17 of the charges.
