Common Core Is Here by Jeanne Chatman
Common Core is a new set of standards for our educational system under the Obama Administration’s program “Race to the Top Assessment.” It is a universal set of standards for public schools that most states have adopted. School districts must adopt Common Core standards to receive federal “Race to the Top” stimulus funds.
Former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education during the Clinton and Bush administrations, Diane Ravich, wrote in the Washington Post: “Why I oppose Common Core Standards; they were created by policy makers in Washington and by an organizations called “Achieve” and the “the National Governor’s Association” funded by the Gates Foundation.” Common Core supporters claim that it is a state led, voluntary program, but Ravich does not support that opinion.
There is some state opposition to Common Core. Alaska, Nebraska, Virginia, and Texas have refused to adopt it. Legislators in Indiana, Georgia, Alabama, and South Dakota have implemented measures to reappeal it.
Obama appointee, Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, is hoping to reshape schools across the nation with the Common Core curriculum. A reported socialist, he was the head of the Chicago Public Schools. Chicago is not acclaimed for its success in education. It receives lots of federal funding, but has not been able to report successful student improvement in the areas of reading and math skills.
Common Core brags on being able to educate students to be able to compete in a global economy. Our nation already competes head and shoulders above other nations, even with the government restrictions that pull us down. Global is the key word. Do we need to meet the standards of other countries? Certainly not, and they should strive to adopt our democratic, capitalistic life style in order to feed their people and have a decent life style for their citizens. Are the rest of the nations in the world equal to the high standards of the United States of America? No! We are a very special nation built upon democracy. We have the highest standard of living in the world. We have been the most successful society of people in the history of the world. Our nation was established by Christian pilgrims who left the old world oppression in Europe and England to create a free republic.
Our forefathers set forth two amazing documents, The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States. This nation was founded upon the principles that the government should not infringe upon the God given rights of its citizens. Democracy is the opposite of socialism, which promotes big government and control over its citizens. Socialism has been given a new attractive name, which is “Progressive,” but it really means “backward.” We are a very special nation established by God, and our laws are based upon the Ten Commandments. We need to remember history and who the great socialists were: Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and other mass murdering, oppressing dictators. Do we want to repeat history with the evil taskmasters of socialism? Do we want to be on the same level with the global society or do we want to continue to be above it? Socialist and atheist professors in our universities are indoctrinating students against patriotism, capitalism and democracy. They consider themselves to be enlightened elitists, whose duty it is to inform the youth of this nation that the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution should be revised to meet the needs of socialism and big government in order to exercise control over every aspect of citizen’s lives. Reading, math, science, and history should taught without opinions and assumptions, which are creeping into our textbooks continually. We still have some good teachers, whom we can trust to educate our children, but they must fight the textbooks and the socialistic educational agenda.
George Soros, an anti-American, anti-capitalist, who donated $1,000,000 to the re-election of Obama, and $500,000 to the Super PAC for Congressional Democrats is a billionaire who manipulates global markets. He is noted as “The man who broke the Bank of England.” He is super critical of the United States, Israel, and capitalism. George Soros’ “Open Society Institute” partnered with the U.S. Dept. of Education to promote a global educational initiative that seeks, “a world where each and every person on Earth can access and contribute to the sum of human knowledge,” according to the Open Society Institute O.E.R. Arne Duncan, head of the U.S. Dept. of Education, announced a “Why Education Matters” competition in 2012 for producing the best film to be called “Open Education Matters.” The award of $25,000 was provided by the three sponsors; George Soros’ Open Society, Creative Commons, and the U.S. Dept. of Education. Creative Commons was founded by Lawrence Lessig in 2001, who was an Obama campaign advisor and former law school teacher at the University of Chicago, now teaching at Harvard. His group, Creative Commons is funded by George Soros. He has worked closely with Marxist activists that have called for the abolishment of capitalism in the U.S. A close associate of Lessig, Robert McChesney, another law professor at the University of Chicago and a Marxist, is the head of the Free Press, which lobbies for stronger government control of the news media. It, too, is funded by George Soros. The Free Press published a study supporting the development of a “world class” government run media system for America. This was directed Ben Scott, who was named a policy adviser for innovation at the U.S. State Department. Our country offers freedom to even Socialists, Marxists, and Communists, but we should be careful not to let them take over and destroy the greatest country in the world, our magnificent democracy of the United States of America.
