Bicycling and Walking Around

My bicycle is our second car. I love to bicycle in all weather, for all distances, and on all routes. Bicycling has brought so much joy to my life, and I want to share it with anyone who is interested. I will use my soapbox to tell you about the joys, the freedom, the benefits, and, yes, the challenges of bicycling and walking for transportation.

On Thursday, August 8, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Dr. Brian Snyder, PhD in Human Nutrition, will discuss "Nutrition for Athletes and the Rest of Us" at the Adair County Health Dept, 1001 S. Jamison in Kirksville, MO.

This isn't your typical nutrition presentation imploring and cajoling you to eat more fruits and vegetables (although you probably ought to), lay off the soda and candy (you probably ought to do that too), and avoid red meat and salt (maybe not, actually). Dr. Snyder understands the biochemistry behind how our bodies handle carbs and fats. Learn what the latest research reveals about the endless stream of fad diets and the science (if any) behind them. Find out how these processes change if you are a runner, a body builder, or a couch potato.

Dr. Snyder is a Nutrition professor at Truman State University. He researches the effects of performance-enhancing supplements. He bicycles competitively, and has raced in the Tour of Lawrence since 2009. In 2012, he competed in 12 races.

Kirksville Area Motion will provide nutritious refreshments for your active or inactive lifestyle. Please register and bring a $5 donation. We'll have a short bike ride afterwards, so bring your bike, helmet, and lights. Extra lights will be available.
