Phillip A. Akin, age 86, of Cameron, Missouri, formerly of Marceline, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Sabetha Manor in Sabetha, Kansas. Phillip was born at Summerfield, Kansas on July 10, 1927 to Morson James and Marie Alice (Montague) Akin. He married Rebecca Rose Wentz on May 12, 1950 and she preceded him in death.
Phillip had worked as a self-employed electrician and had worked for REA right out of high school as a lineman.
He is survived by three sons, Gary L. Akin, Seneca, KS; Ronald Akin, Kingsville, MO; and Norman Akin, Springfield, MO; one daughter, Diane Sue Diciocio, Dunedin, FL; brothers Martin Jeffery Akin and Charles Harvey Akin, sister Marvelyn January, ten grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rebecca, companion Stella M. Turner, and two brothers, Oscar James Akin and Glen Francis Akin.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with Rev. Donald Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Visitation will be held from 11 A.M. Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Archie Akin, Chris Combs, Chris Mullins, Andy Renyer, Dillion Akin, and Gary Smith.
