William P. Essig, 78, Marceline, died Thursday Sept. 5, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013m at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. David Gouge officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 201,3 at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Pallbearers will be Fred Dorrell, Barry Smith, Dennis Cupp, Ed Ewigman, Troy Bruner, Tommy Sportsman, and Joe Cordray.
Memorials be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, M0. 64658.
Bill was born July 13, 1935, in Kansas City, son of Presley E. and Eva Jane (Swearngain) Essig. He married Judith A. Goff on November 27, 1959.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and worked for the City of Marceline for 28 years in the street department as an equipment operator. He was a member of the VFW Post #1471, Bethany Baptist Church, a former member of the Jaycees, all of Marceline and a Marceline resident all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Essig, of the home in Marceline; daughter, Rachel Smith, Marceline; and two grandsons, Matthew and Mitchell Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
