  • The Brookfield Lady Dogs softball team traveled to Trenton last night for a non-conference “Battle of the Bulldogs.” The team won this game to follow up their second place finish at the Putnam County Tournament from this past weekend.

  • The Brookfield Lady Dogs softball team traveled to Trenton last night for a non-conference “Battle of the Bulldogs.”   The team won this game to follow up their second place finish at the Putnam County Tournament from this past weekend.  
    In the top of the first, Bailey Parks slapped her way on base. She would end the frame stranded. Trenton would threaten with some baserunners in the home half of the inning, but the game remained scoreless after one inning.  
    A single from Morgan Ewing would be the line offense for Brookfield in the top of the second. Trenton would go down in order, with pitcher Sammi Overton ringing up two strikeouts. After two innings, the game was still tied 0-0.  
    A double from Alesa Frey would begin a small rally in the top of the third. Alexis Lindsay would Jon her on base, reaching on an error. Both would end the frame stranded in scoring position. Trenton would send six to the plate in the bottom of the frame, but still the game remained 0-0 after three innings.  
    Megan Kearns singled to start the fourth inning. She was joined on base by Ewing, who reached on an error. Jaclyn Weydert reached on a Fielder’s Choice to put runners on the corners. Karissa Trentham bunted to load the bases. The first two runs of the game would be driven in next by Gabrielle Corf. Trenton would go down in order to give Brookfield a 2-0 lead after four innings.  
    “It felt awesome out there tonight,” said Kearns. “This was a good win for us, and I was happy to be able to contribute.”
    Kearns earned her second hit of the game, doubling with one out in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Weydert brought Kearns home with an RBI double. Trenton would again threaten in the bottom of the fifth, but would not score. After five innings, the girls in blue led 3-0.  
    Corf singled to start the sixth inning, and would advance to second on a bunt. A single slapped to the edge of the outfield by Parks would bring home the final run of the game for the local Lady Dogs. Trenton sent four to the plate in the home half of the frame, but did not score. After six innings, Brookfield led 4-0.  
    The Brookfield girls went down in order in the top of the seventh. Trenton would send six to the plate, and would score one. However, Brookfield took this game by a final score of 4-1.
